About Roles (Admin, Owner, Client)

  • Administrators create and maintain Owner accounts. Administrators have read-only acess to all inventory data. All versions require at least one Admin account.
  • Owners create their own inventory and other data. Owners have unrestricted access to their data but not data belonging to other Owners. All versions require at least one Owner account.
  • Clients are sub-accounts of Owners. Clients can access their Owner's data but not data that belongs to other Owners. Client access is controlled by setting permissions for the Client.

Benefits

  1. Platform Independence: Control your inventory from any web browser on any computer with any operating system.
  2. Familiar Interface: The Internet browser is arguably the most commonly used software on the planet today; Internet Explorer and Netscape are ubiquitous. This high-level of use results in an inherent familiarity which empowers users who are not technologically inclined by making use of standard functionality such as Web links (blue underlined text indicated hyper/web links).
  3. Centralization of Information: Visual Inventory can help organizations of all sizes overcome issues related to the de-centralized information by making user relevant information (from addresses to invoices) available from anywhere with an Internet connection.
  4. User Management: Visual Inventory affords organizations the freedom to set a multi-leveled user workspace environment and accordingly restrict the access to information each user is granted.
  5. Security: Visual Inventory is password protected and data is encrypted and stored in the most secure database system available today.
  6. Support: Visual Inventory can be updated remotely so your organization need not incur costly charges for on-site visits, or endure lengthy delays waiting for a technical representative to visit your facilities. Organizations which are geographically isolated can greatly benefit from this feature.
  7. Upgrades: Like technical support for Visual Inventory, upgrades are performed automatically and remotely which means no member of your organization needs to spend valuable time toiling with software upgrades.
  8. Information Backup: When using Visual Inventory, backups are performed automatically at regulated intervals which spare members of your organization the responsibility of performing time-consuming, yet critical, backup procedures. Storing your data off site is much more secure than saving files on your local machine.

Product Q & A

If you have a question about using this software or about its suitability for a specific purpose, we encourage you to contact us.

Q: I manage a supply department for a large national bank with several branch offices. My department provides office supplies and printed material to various offices in each of the branches. I would like to computerize this inventory and make these supplies available online so that various department managers in each branch can view inventory and place orders remotely for required products. Does your software provide this capability.

A: Yes. In fact, Visual inventory was designed for this purpose.

Q: I own and operate a small warehouse where inventory is actually owned and supplied by our clients. We want to make it possible for these clients to view their inventory (but not inventory belonging to other owners) and to place orders. In most cases, these orders will require that the inventory be drop-shipped to various locations. From reading your material, it appears that your software will handle this. Am I correct?

A: Yes, you can specify an "Owner" for each inventory item. This will enable these owners to view their (owned) inventory while restricting them from accessing any other items. When the client places an order online, he can specify the shipping address for each order independently or create a "ship to" address on-the-fly.

Q: As was reading your web site, I came up with an idea for a new business. I would like to create a service where various clients (here in Canada) can setup and maintain their own inventory online. I would like each customer to be able to create and maintain their inventory data with little or no intervention on my part. I anticipate having at least 6 such customers initially, but I would hope this will grow to a large "community" of users very quickly. I plan to charge each customer a small monthly fee for the service. Are there any licensing restrictions or other problems which might prevent this?

A: There are no licensing restrictions. In fact we encourage you to develop this idea and wish you the best of luck in your new endeavor.
